2023 Reflections
by Malynda Hale on December 30, 2023
I look back at the year I’ve had and all I can see are blessings. I started the year doing DEI workshops for some great companies. I was the guest speaker at Crunchyroll for their Black History Month event, and I headlined an MLK benefit concert where the proceeds went to the nonprofit R.O.C. Era. I was also a guest on some incredible podcasts, including Empowered Artist Collective, Red Wine and Blue and Evangelicalish.
My family was on the cover of Pasadena Magazine. We also remodeled parts of our house which I feel very grateful we were able to do. As an assistant producer at The Garry Marshall Theatre, I helped develop and teach the Broadway Bound Youth Musical Theatre Workshop as well as co-produced our first annual GMT All Stars Benefit Concert!
I booked a supporting role in a TV movie, filmed another segment for ABC Mouse, and was in a short film that premiered at Silicon Beach Film Festival. I sang for America Ferrera and Wilmer Valderrama’s organization Harness and I choreographed a 90-minute show for Sunset Singers new group “The Suits!” I got to speak at Wondercon on a panel called “Women in Entertainment,” and took a leap of faith and directed and funded my very first short film, written by my husband.
Not only was I honored to be the Keynote Speaker for East Los Angeles College, I was also a featured vocalist for the San Bernardino Orchestra and sang the National Anthem for the Dodgers. I did a staged reading of a new musical, sang background for my friend at his concert in Cerritos, and had a song featured on the Disney Channel Show Saturdays.
As the year ended, I finished writing and illustrating my children’s book with an amazing illustrator name Ronnie Whyman, I partnered with two advocacy groups, did an instagram live interview for TV One with Oscar Grant’s mother, wrote an op-ed for The Daily Beast, and wrapped up seven seasons and four years of my beloved podcast #WeNeedToTalk.
I am so grateful to have accomplished all of the above while also running my company JMV Entertainment and making sure I’m the best wife, mom, and friend I can be. Loves, CELEBRATE YOUR WINS! Be proud of every single thing you’ve done and never stop.I’m going into next year with so much gratitude and simply being able to say that God is Amazing and thank you.
